Nature's Palette

Tonight in WOW! Club we tried out some 'natural' art, using only nature's palette! We collected a range of berries from our hedgerow and also some mud to use. We bought the berries back, put on some plastic gloves to stop our fingers getting too stained and crushed the berries. Using only our fingers, we created some natural art work using these amazing autumnal colours. We all made quite a mess, but enjoyed ourselves and were quite pleased with the results!.....

Wonderful Willow Weaving!

Earlier in the year, WOW! Club won a National Competition organised by The Woodlands Trust. We created some robin art using natural materials......

Our prize was a day with an artist who used natural materials. Ms MacRae met a willow artist when she was at Gardeners' World Live and asked if he could come into school as he was a local artist. The Woodlands Trust agreed and this week Tom Hare came to spend a day with us!

Tom is a willow artist who lives pretty close to our school. He has created some amazing sculptures out of willow and his work can be seen on his website at www.tomhare.net

Tom worked with two groups.... all WOW! Club members both past, present... and some due to join after Christmas, all took part. We worked on lots of different ideas, building up our willow weaving skills. We produced items that could be combined to create a unique willow bird feeding station in our wildlife area.  We created willow leaves on which we could serve food to the birds, willow domes in which to feed the birds and some willow snails to decorate the area as well.

Tom helped set all the bits we had made up in the wildlife area and we willow tied feeders inside the spheres and used the leaves either as a plate for food or as a perch..... it was looking amazing! We all hope the birds are going to love it as much as we do.....

Our other photographs from this brilliant day can be seen on our school Flick set HERE, so why not take a look?!!
